A central element of HCL's culture is something we call
"relationship beyond the contract." It describes the way

HCL's interest in the nature of outsourcing relationships,
combined with the growing importance of strategic
partnerships as companies embark on their journeys of
digital transformation, led us to seek a CIO perspective
on how to make such partnerships work. The result is
this issue's cover article, "Strategic Partnerships in the
Digital Age," reported and written by Abbie Lundberg, the
longtime editor-in-chief of CIO magazine. It draws in part
on a recently released survey of 121 senior IT executives on
the topic of strategic partnerships.
This issue of CIO Straight Talk also includes articles by
CIOs on a variety of other topics, from managing relentless
change to taking career risks. There's a special package of
articles by chief digital officers, which we hope to make a
regular offering. Oh, and there's a piece by the CIO of the
