PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Michael Nilles is the Chief Information Officer of
Schindler and also serves as the CEO of Schindler's
digital unit, Schindler Digital Business AG. Nilles
is responsible for driving Schindler's digital
transformation, and he globally oversees digital
business, business process management, and
information technology at the company. Prior
to joining Schindler in 2009, Nilles led different
phases of digitization at Mannesmann and Bosch
Rexroth AG for more than ten years. He has
lived and worked in both China and the U.S.,
and he serves on the boards of various global
corporations, including Lufthansa Technik AG.

EDUCATION: Master's degree, University of
Cologne in Business Administration and Computer
Science; MBA, Kellogg School of Management,
Northwestern University.

In his notebook, Claude Shannon estimates the storage capacity of a number of items: punch card, about 103 bits of information;
single-spaced typed page, 104 bits; the "genetic constitution of man," about 105 bits (this, four years before the discovery of the
double-helix structure of DNA); the Library of Congress (about the largest repository of bits imaginable), 1014 bits.
